Jean Paul Gaudet's store and St Jacques L'Achigan.

Next stop was St-Jacques l'Achigan, or simply St-Jacques for short. Its a beautiful little town that is centered around the church. This is where our ancestors stayed for over a hundred and thirty years before heading to Bellevue in 1903.

After a brief drive along the rang, we stoped in at Jean Paul Gaudet's store. C'est lui le marchand générale de St-Jacques. Il a toujours étè une richesse d'information sur les Gaudet, de la région ainsi que de Bellevue.

Jean Paul was a wonderful host. We started off looking around his store which is like a true general store of old, selling everything from chain saw oil, to work boots, to chocolate covered cherry blossoms.

We then received a tour of their century old house above the store. This store was there when Ernest and family lived nearby! We looked around, watching out for our heads. In the store room, going through various old family momentos, we were even given an impromptu sampling of Jean Paul's violin playing.

You can see to the left the ducts to spread the heat through the house, just like in Batoche, as well as a picture of his sister who also lives with him above the store.

After great conversations as well as buying some treats,
we headed off just down the street.

This one's actually called a rang, retaining part of the original
land division system from the days of the settling of Quebec.
Actually, its a Rang Double, meaning that houses are built on both
sides of the street, something that is apparently quite uncommon.
